1. Grapevine

Grapevine is known as the “Christmas Capital of Texas” and it truly lives up to the name! 

Located just outside Dallas, this charming town transforms into a holiday wonderland each December, with over a million twinkling lights, more than 1,400 events and decorations galore. 

Stroll down Main Street to enjoy dazzling light displays, visit the historic Palace Theatre for classic Christmas movies, or hop aboard the North Pole Express.

2. Highland Park

Highland Park, located in the heart of Dallas, is famous for its breathtaking holiday light displays that turn the entire neighborhood into a glowing winter wonderland! 

Each December, the area’s luxurious homes are decked out in dazzling lights and decorations, making a drive or carriage ride through Highland Park Village an unforgettable experience.

Highland Park Village itself, an upscale shopping center, sparkles with festive lights and huge, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, perfect for photos. 

For a truly magical night, grab a hot cocoa then hop on one of the charming horse-drawn carriages that offer cozy rides through the brightly lit streets.

3. Grand Prairie

Grand Prairie is a true Christmas wonderland with its epic ‘Prairie Lights’ display, one of the best drive-thru light shows in the state! 

Located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Grand Prairie lights up Lynn Creek Park along Joe Pool Lake with over four million sparkling lights and holiday scenes that stretch for two magical miles. 

Midway through, you can stop at the Holiday Village, where there’s a walk-through forest of lights, carnival rides, a holiday market and even Santa himself for photos! 

For an extra thrill, don’t miss the animated light tunnel, a mind-blowing spectacle of color and movement that feels like a Christmas rollercoaster. 

4. College Station

Located 2 hours east of Austin, College Station brings big holiday cheer with its famous ‘Santa’s Wonderland’, an enormous Christmas village packed with everything merry and bright! 

Located just outside the city, Santa’s Wonderland features Texas-sized displays of millions of twinkling lights and even a festive hayride.

Inside the village, you’ll find a cozy Texas-style town square with live music, a Texas BBQ, a giant outdoor ice-skating rink and even snow machines creating a wintery feel (yes, in Texas!). 

Kids (and adults!) can meet Santa, hop on a trail ride or snap photos in front of massive holiday displays and real longhorns decked out for Christmas. 

5. Georgetown

Georgetown turns into a charming Christmas town with its beloved ‘Georgetown Square’, known as “The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas,” which goes all out for the holidays! 

Just north of Austin, Georgetown hosts its annual ‘Lighting of the Square’, where thousands of twinkling lights turn the historic buildings into a magical holiday scene.

Stroll through the square to find local shops brimming with unique gifts, cozy cafes and even pop-up holiday markets that make for perfect Christmas shopping. 

Georgetown’s ‘Christmas Stroll’ is also a town favorite, featuring festive parades, carolers, photos with Santa and a kid-friendly play area called Whoville, inspired by ‘The Grinch’.

6. Johnson City

Johnson City is a must-see holiday destination with its iconic ‘Lights Spectacular’ event, which covers the entire town in a dazzling display of over a million Christmas lights! 

Located in the heart of Texas Hill Country, Johnson City’s downtown and historic courthouse glow with thousands of lights, creating a magical vibe perfect for photos and holiday cheer.

At the ‘Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC)’ headquarters, you’ll find breathtaking light displays, including massive oak trees covered in twinkling lights, and each year, the town hosts a holiday celebration with live music, food trucks and visits from Santa. 

Stroll along the town’s Main Street to browse charming local shops and grab warm treats from local vendors. 

7. Fredericksburg

Each December, the town’s Marktplatz (town square) shines with a 26-foot-tall German Christmas Pyramid and a massive illuminated tree, creating a magical holiday backdrop.

Known for its German roots, Fredericksburg goes all out with festive decorations, Christmas markets and its beloved ‘Weihnachtszeit’, or Christmas season, filled with holiday music, crafts and delicious treats. 

Also don’t miss the ‘Christmas Nights of Lights’, a nightly show on Marktplatz featuring synchronized lights and holiday music that’s a local favorite. 

8. New Braunfels

New Braunfels brings a unique twist to Christmas with its German heritage and festive holiday events, making it a must-visit on any Texas Christmas road trip! 

Located between San Antonio and Austin, this charming town hosts ‘Wassailfest’ in its historic downtown, where you can sip on delicious wassail (a hot spiced cider).

New Braunfels is also home to the ‘Gruene Historic District’, where the beloved ‘Gruene Christmas Market Days’ features unique holiday gifts and plenty of festive decorations in a rustic, Old West setting.

Located right in the heart of the city, the River Walk hosts festive events like the ‘Ford Holiday River Parade’, where decorated floats glide down the river as spectators cheer and carolers sing.

Located in East Texas, Marshall’s historic downtown comes alive with over a million lights covering the iconic Harrison County Courthouse and spreading through the town square. 

Families can glide across the seasonal ice skating rink, hop on the vintage-style carousel or take a cozy carriage ride through the beautifully lit streets. 

Marshall also hosts special events like Santa’s Workshop, where kids can meet Santa and enjoy holiday crafts, and a festive lighted parade that fills the town with Christmas cheer. 

12. Jefferson

Jefferson is a charming historic town that feels like stepping back in time, especially during the holidays with its beloved ‘Jefferson Christmas Parade’ and ‘Candlelight Tour of Homes’.
