Sleeping Bear Point Beach is located inside Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, about 10 minutes from Glen Arbor along the wild shores of Lake Michigan.
This beach is popular for its soft dunes that are fun to roll down, rocky shores perfect for collecting stones, and clear blue waters ideal for swimming with water shoes.
Sunsets here are also unforgettable, with glowing orange skies reflecting across the water as waves crash along endless stretches of sand.
If you have time, don’t miss the 2.8-mile Sleeping Bear Point Trail nearby, a scenic loop that winds through dunes, ghost forest, and incredible views of the Manitou Islands.
2. Oval Beach (Saugatuck)
Next up is Oval Beach in Saugatuck, known for its wide sandy shoreline, grassy dunes, and scenic setting where the Kalamazoo River meets Lake Michigan.
It has appeared on Condé Nast Traveler’s list of the world’s 25 best shorelines and has also been ranked among America’s top beaches by MTV.

You can spend the entire afternoon swimming here, then hike through the woods to the top of Mount Baldhead and ride the historic Saugatuck Chain Ferry into town.
3. Twelvemile Beach (Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore)
Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Twelvemile Beach is a stunning 12-mile stretch of Lake Superior shoreline inside Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
Unlike the lively atmosphere at Oval Beach, this beach feels remote and wild, with colorful stones, clear water, and tall trees backing the shoreline.

6. Grand Haven State Park Beach (Grand Haven)
Then there’s Grand Haven State Park Beach, where a classic beach town atmosphere makes it easy to slow down and relax.
It features 48 acres of white sand along Lake Michigan, a popular fishing pier, and close-up views of the Grand Haven South Pierhead Lighthouse.

For a completely different side of Michigan beach life, head to Port Crescent State Park at the tip of Michigan’s thumb along Lake Huron.
This 3-mile shoreline inside the 640-acre state park is popular for its soft sand and shallow turquoise water that’s perfect for family swimming.
You can also camp here and stay after dark for some of the best stargazing in Michigan at this designated Dark Sky Preserve.
On clear nights, the Milky Way often stretches across the sky above the lake, turning a simple beach trip into an unforgettable nighttime experience.
