Where Is It?
The Gelman Stained Glass Museum is located at 411 Virgen de San Juan Blvd in San Juan, a city in South Texas’s Rio Grande Valley.
You’ll find it about 10 minutes from McAllen, around 15 minutes from Edinburg, 20 minutes from Mission, and 30 minutes from Harlingen.
If you’re driving from farther away, it’s roughly 3.5 hours from San Antonio, 2 hours and 20 minutes from Corpus Christi, and 5 hours and 15 minutes from Houston.

The Gelman Stained Glass Museum houses the country’s most comprehensive collection of stained-glass windows, including 174 breathtaking antique pieces.
These windows were created between the 19th and 20th centuries, giving you a closer look at the incredible craftsmanship behind each design.
Over 45 years, local anesthesiologist Dr. Lawrence Richard Gelman carefully assembled the collection you see today.
When it outgrew its original storage spaces, the museum was created to give these remarkable works a permanent home.
As you walk through the galleries, you’ll see works by some of the world’s most famous stained glass artists and studios.
These include Tiffany Studios, John La Farge, Mary Tillinghast, F.X. Zettler, J&R Lamb Studios, Franz Mayer Studios, La Casa Del Vitral, and more.
If there’s one display you won’t want to miss, it’s the stunning group of Tiffany Studios windows.
Louis Comfort Tiffany revolutionized stained glass in the late 1800s by developing Favrile glass, known for its rich colors and shimmering, iridescent finish.
Seeing these pieces up close lets you appreciate tiny details that photographs simply cannot capture.
Up close, you’ll notice brilliant blues, fiery reds, emerald greens, deep purples, and golden yellows, along with fine painted details and leadwork.

The Gelman Stained Glass Museum is open Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Admission is required, with special discounts available for several groups.
