The Ultimate Tennessee Treetop Canopy & Boardwalks Road Trip

If you’ve ever wanted to walk through the treetops, swing across the sky, or stroll above a swampy forest without getting muddy, this road trip is calling your name.

We’re talking hanging bridges that sway, boardwalks that twist through the woods, and sky-high walkways with views for days.

You’ll climb, zip, balance, and wander through some of the coolest outdoor spots in Tennessee, with ziplines and even glass-bottom bridges.

So pack some comfy shoes and get ready for the ultimate adventure up in the trees (and a few feet above the water too).

1. Foxfire Adventure Park

Foxfire Adventure Park sits in the Smoky Mountains in Sevierville, only 20 minutes from Pigeon Forge.

It’s famous for having one of the longest swinging bridges in the U.S., stretching 400+ feet across Foxfire gorge (yep, it wobbles!).

You can also walk across canopy sky bridges, zipline over the forest, and try out a 60-foot climbing wall if you’re feeling brave.

If thrills aren’t your thing, there’s also a gem mining operation to enjoy and scenic hiking trails through the gorge and creek areas.

2. Treetop Skywalk at Anakeesta

Just down the road in Gatlinburg, the Treetop Skywalk at Anakeesta takes things to a whole new level (literally).

This 880-foot skywalk rises 50 to 60 feet above the ground, weaving through the trees of a lush mountain forest like a scene from an adventure movie.

You’ll cross 16 connected hanging bridges, spot wildlife, and soak up nonstop views of the Smokies the entire way.

And the best part is that it lights up with twinkling forest lights at night, so don’t skip the Astra Lumina walk because it’s pure magic.

3. SkyBridge at Gatlinburg SkyPark

Next up is the SkyBridge at Gatlinburg SkyPark, and this one’s a total showstopper.

It’s North America’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, spanning almost 700 feet across the valley with glass panels in the middle so you can see straight down.

To get here, you’ll ride the SkyLift up Crockett Mountain, where sweeping views make the journey just as fun as the destination.

Once you’re up top, take your time crossing the bridge because it’s meant for lingering, not rushing, and the Smoky Mountain vistas make it worthwhile.

4. Navitat Knoxville

Only an hour from Gatlinburg SkyPark, Navitat Knoxville offers a different kind of adventure that’s just as enjoyable as the big mountain bridges.

This aerial adventure park is set within Ijams Nature Center, and it’s loaded with treetop obstacle courses that feel like a forest jungle gym.

You’ll crawl through nets, swing on ropes, balance your way across bridges, and zipline between platforms, with some trails reaching up to 60 feet high.

It’s self-guided after a short orientation, so you can move at your own pace and finish with that satisfying leg burn.

5. Mineral Slough Boardwalk

Switching things up, Mineral Slough Boardwalk is your slow-down-and-take-it-in kind of stop.

It’s located inside the Ghost River State Natural Area near Moscow, and the whole loop is a super easy 0.6-mile stroll on a raised wooden boardwalk.

Along the way, you’ll wind through peaceful wetlands dotted with interpretive signs, cypress trees, water lilies, and plenty of birds (bring binoculars!).

It’s quiet, shady, and feels like you’ve stepped into a hidden nature world that most folks just drive right past.

6. Reelfoot Lake State Park

Just when you think the boardwalks can’t get any cooler, Reelfoot Lake State Park shows up with some seriously wild scenery.

This lake, formed by early 1800s earthquakes, is now packed with flooded cypress forests, giant mossy trees, and boardwalks zigzagging across the water.

The highlight here is the boardwalk at the Reelfoot Lake Visitor Center, a short walk full of wildlife where you might spot bald eagles.

It’s part swamp, part lake, and easily one of the most unforgettable sights in Tennessee.
