1. LeMay – America’s Car Museum
LeMay – America’s Car Museum has over 300 classic cars, hot rods, and rare vintage rides on display across four huge floors.
It’s located near the Tacoma Dome and is easy to spot with its sleek, curved building that looks kind of like a giant car hood.
Inside, you’ll find everything from early automobiles like the Ford Model T to a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado, plus rotating exhibits like “Route 66: Dream of the Mother Road.”
There’s even a racing simulator where you can test your driving skills and a Family Zone with hands-on games if you’re visiting with kids.
2. Museum of Glass
Next up is the Museum of Glass, known for its massive hot shop where you can actually watch artists shape molten glass right in front of you.
This place is all about bold, colorful glass art, from giant swirling sculptures to delicate pieces that look like they could break with the lightest touch.
You’ll also find works by famous artist Dale Chihuly (who’s from Tacoma!) plus new exhibits that change often enough to keep things exciting.

It houses more than 500 animal species, including red wolves, puffins, and a super playful crew of sea otters that honestly steal the show.

6. Fort Nisqually Living History Museum
Located inside Point Defiance Park and only three minutes from the zoo, Fort Nisqually Living History Museum takes you way back to the 1850s.
It’s a real-deal historic fort with wooden buildings, costumed guides, and live demos like blacksmithing and candle making.
You can also tour the original Granary and Factor’s House, check out vintage tools, and chat with interpreters about what life was like long before smartphones.
This stop is hands-on, super interactive, and honestly makes history way more fun than it ever was in school.
7. Owen Beach
Once you’ve explored the fort, head to Owen Beach next for some serious chill time by the water.
