Ready to chase some of the best waterfalls in Michigan?
Let’s hit the road and explore the unforgettable stops that make this the ultimate Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore waterfall adventure.
1. Munising Falls

Munising Falls is one of the easiest waterfalls to visit in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, with a short paved trail winding through a scenic forest.
The walk is only about 0.4 miles out and back, and viewing platforms near the base provide comfortable, up-close views of the 50-foot waterfall year-round.
If you visit in the summer, the cool mist and shaded surroundings provide a refreshing break from the heat.
Come winter, you’ll be treated to a frozen curtain of ice that makes the falls one of the area’s most dramatic seasonal sights.
2. Miners Falls

After Munising Falls, drive 15 minutes to Miners Falls, one of the park’s most powerful waterfalls, where water plunges about 50 feet over a sandstone ledge.
To reach it, follow a 1.2-mile out-and-back trail through the forest, where a wide gravel path leads to scenic overlooks and a viewing platform down 64 steps.
From the platform, you can watch water rush between rock walls stained with shades of orange and brown from natural minerals seeping through the sandstone.
With its impressive flow and gorgeous setting, this cascade showcases the rugged beauty that defines Pictured Rocks.
3. Elliot Falls
Next up is Elliott Falls, a small waterfall with two short drops tucked at the eastern end of Miners Beach, where the shoreline meets the cliffs.
Unlike the larger waterfalls found inland, this one flows directly into Lake Superior, allowing you to enjoy both the waterfall and the lake in a single view.
You can reach it by taking a short walk from a small parking area on Miners Beach Road and following a staircase down to the beach, making it an easy yet rewarding stop.
So take a couple of pictures, soak in the surroundings, and enjoy a peaceful moment beside the water before moving on.
4. Mosquito Falls

From Elliott Falls, it’s a 30-minute drive to Mosquito Falls, a quieter waterfall on the Mosquito River where rushing water creates a picture-perfect scene.
The trail to the falls is about 2 miles round trip and follows part of the Chapel Loop area, allowing you to visit several well-known Pictured Rocks attractions in one outing.
When you arrive, you’ll find two drops and a series of rapids tumbling over rock ledges instead of a single dramatic plunge.
It’s the kind of place that feels wonderfully removed from the busier corners of the park.
5. Chapel Falls

Keep the road trip going with Chapel Falls, one of the most remote waterfalls in Pictured Rocks, where water drops about 60 feet on its way to Chapel Lake.
To get there, follow a 1.2-mile trail from the parking lot on an old roadbed through maple woods, with two viewing platforms overlooking the scenic Chapel Basin along the route.
The view is extra beautiful in autumn, as colorful leaves add even more contrast to the cliffs and forest below.
6. Spray Falls

A short 5-minute drive from Chapel Falls brings you to Spray Falls, where water cascades about 70 feet from the cliffs into Lake Superior.
Unlike most waterfalls in Pictured Rocks, this one empties directly into the lake, creating a dramatic scene that is best appreciated from the water.
You can also see the falls from sections of the North Country Scenic Trail, although only portions of the cascade are visible from here.
With its rushing water, towering lakeside cliffs, and sweeping views, this stop showcases some of the best scenery in the park.
7. Sable Falls

Wrap up the waterfall tour with Sable Falls, a scenic 75-foot waterfall that tumbles over colorful sandstone formations before continuing toward Lake Superior.
To get a closer look, take the short 0.4-mile round-trip trail from the parking lot and head down 168 steps for views from the base of the falls.
From there, you can admire the rushing water from up close, snap a few photos, and spend some time taking in the scenery.
Thanks to its easy access and location near the Au Sable Light Station, Sable Falls makes a fitting final stop on this Pictured Rocks waterfall road trip.
