Kelly’s Roast Beef is the place that put the North Shore roast beef sandwich on the map.

It all started in 1951 when Frank V. McCarthy and Raymond Carey opened a small hot dog stand on Revere Beach and named it after their friend Thomas Kelly.

Legend has it that when a wedding next door was canceled, they brought the extra roast beef to the stand, sliced it thin, and served it on grilled rolls.
