Lala’s Little Nugget isn’t just decorated for Christmas—it lives Christmas, every single day.
We’re talking flashing reindeer, glowing Santas, and enough string lights to rival a small-town holiday parade.
This place has been cranking out yuletide cheer since the early 70s, and it hasn’t taken a break since.
Some say that Frances Lala, the original owner, started leaving the decorations up year-round after her husband left her on Christmas day.
Others say that she thought the bar just felt too bare after the decorations came down after Christmas.
And another version of the story says the decorations were left up, waiting for her son to return home from fighting in Vietnam.
Whatever the reason, it became part of the bar’s story.
Eventually, the bar became a full-blown holiday legend, and now it’s one of Austin’s quirkiest, most beloved dives.
Step inside and boom, you’re hit with wall-to-wall Christmas kitsch.
There’s a Santa on the roof above the bar.
An entire ceiling covered in ornaments.
A jukebox that plays a mix of different music.
And yes, you can sip eggnog here in July.
It’s both cozy and totally over-the-top, and you’ll want to share this place with your friends.
Both locals and out-of-towners immediately have to see it for themselves as soon as they hear about it.

Hours are usually:
- Monday to Friday: 4 PM to 2 AM
- Saturday & Sunday: 12 PM to 2 AM

There’s no cover charge, so you can stroll right in without dropping a dime.
Drinks are super affordable, especially for Austin.
During weekday Happy Hour, domestic bottles are $3, wells are $4, and cocktails like house margaritas and Bloody Marys are $5.
Lala’s Little Nugget offers Pedroso’s Pizza, with flavors like Cheese, Veggie, and Trifecta, plus a build-your-own-toppings option.
Weeknights are your best bet if you want to grab a booth and actually hear your friends talk.
Fridays and Saturdays get packed, especially in December when everyone’s rocking antlers and trying to outdo each other’s ugly sweaters.
It’s 21+ only, so leave the little elves at home.
Parking can be tight in the North Loop area, but there’s free street parking nearby if you’re patient.
