1. Mabank
Mabank is a small town in East Texas, located right on the northern edge of Cedar Creek Lake, less than an hour from Dallas.
It’s known for its old-school downtown area with antique shops, mom-and-pop diners like ‘The Victorian Lady Tea Room’, and community events held at the Mabank Pavilion.
You’ll also find local parks in the area, like George Watts Memorial Park, where you can stretch your legs.
This town is a great pit stop to grab some homemade pie before hitting the lake.
2. Purtis Creek State Park
Just a quick 15-minute drive from Mabank, Purtis Creek State Park is where you’ll want to pull over and stay awhile.
This peaceful spot is all about fishing, paddling, and unplugging, with a 355-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, plus kayak and canoe rentals right by the water.
There’s a 1.7-mile Beaver Slide Nature Path that loops through the woods, plus longer trails like the Wolfpen Hike and Bike Trail if you’re up for a walk.
If you’re into camping, there’s a mix of primitive sites that have fire rings as well as sites with electricity and water hookups that have access to nearby showers and picnic tables.
3. Triple N Ranch Winery and Vineyard
After soaking up the quiet at Purtis Creek, head about 35 minutes away to Triple N Ranch Winery and Vineyard for a totally different kind of unwind.
This family-owned spot in Trinidad pours Texas-made wine inside a rustic tasting room that used to be an old barn.
You can sip a chilled Blanc du Bois or bold Tempranillo while sitting outside by the vines or grab a cheese bread and hang out under the string lights.
They’re open Thursday through Sunday, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch live music playing while you toast your road trip.
4. Whatz-Up Fun Park
Once you’ve had your wine moment, it’s time to crank the energy back up at Whatz-Up Fun Park, just 15 minutes away in Seven Points.
This place is packed with stuff to do, from go-karts and bumper cars to mini golf, laser tag, and an arcade that feels straight out of the ’90s.
They’ve even got a paintball course and a climbing wall if you’re feeling extra bold.
It’s the kind of spot where you can easily spend hours laughing, racing, and letting your inner kid go wild.
5. LouLou’s To Go (Seasonal)
After all that action, you’re definitely going to need a snack stop, and LouLou’s To Go in Seven Points, just outside Gun Barrel City, is the place to be.
This seasonal food spot is famous for its sno-cones, daiquiris, loaded energy teas, and beer.
It’s super casual with outdoor seating and the kind of laid-back vibe that screams summer.
They’re usually open March through September, so if you’re road-tripping in the warmer months, this place is a must.
6. Tom Finley Park (Seasonal)
End your Cedar Creek Lake adventure with a chill hang at Tom Finley Park, just ten minutes from LouLou’s in nearby Gun Barrel City.
This lakefront park is a favorite for sunset views, with a small beach, shady picnic spots, and a big open lawn that’s perfect for tossing a frisbee.
There’s a swim area roped off in the summer, plus a fishing pier if you’re still trying to catch one more big one before heading home.
It’s only open seasonally, usually April through October, so plan your visit when the weather’s warm and the lake’s calling.
