Why You Should Visit Africa

Africa is an incredible continent filled with beautiful landscapes, ancient history, natural wonders and once-in-a-lifetime adventures.

Here’s just a few reasons why you should visit Africa on your next adventure.

Africa Overview:

Countries: 54 UN recognised countries.

Languages: ~2,000 different languages spoken.

Population: 1.2 billion.

Why You Should Visit Africa

1. Africa is filled with some of the world’s best.

Africa contains many of the world’s best. Who doesn’t love visiting the biggest and best things the planet has to offer?

Africa is home to the largest desert on Earth, the Sahara Desert, the longest river in the world, the River Nile, and the tallest free-standing mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro.

Check those out for size!

2. Africa has some of the best tropical beaches.

When you think of tropical beach destinations, you may not immediately think of Africa however you’d be surprised as it does have a range of paradise beach spots to choose from!

The island of Zanzibar, just off from the coast of Tanzania, is heaven on Earth. You can expect white sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters and the best bit is that not many people know about it!

The Gambia, South Africa and São Tomé & Príncipe also have some very picturesque beaches that are just breathtaking.

And do I even have to mention Mauritius or the Seychelles? La Digue in the Seychelles should be on every postcard!

3. Africa has many unique natural wonders.

One of the best reasons to visit Africa is that there are many incredible natural wonders in Africa that you just won’t find anywhere else.

Devil’s Pool in Zambia is a natural pool where you can swim right up to the edge of the incredible Victoria Falls. This waterfall is 1,708 metres wide!

Another incredible natural wonder is the Namib Desert, a coastal desert with some of the biggest sand dunes.

Other places not to miss include the sulphur lakes in the Danakil Depression in Ethiopia and Mount Nyiragongo in DRC which has the world’s largest lava lake!

4. Africa has fascinating ancient history.

Africa is brimming with ancient history to explore.

In Algeria and Tunisia, you will see many ruins from the ancient Roman empire including a colossal amphitheatre at El Jem in Tunisia.

In Somalia, you can see some of Africa’s oldest prehistoric cave paintings.

And, of course, in Africa you can wonder at the Great Pyramids of Giza which are the only remaining ancient wonder of the world! Many structures from ancient Egyptian times still stand in Luxor including the Valley of the Kings.

5. There are many safe places to visit in Africa.

The main concern for many travellers when visiting Africa is that it is unsafe.

Whilst there are some countries in Africa that are currently not safe to visit, there are plenty that are perfectly safe to travel to. Some of the safest include Botswana, Rwanda, Morocco and Namibia.

In fact the Institute for Economics & Peace ranks Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Madagascar, Ghana (to name just a few) as safer than the United States!

Just remember that Africa is a big place with 54 different countries so if you hear that one country is unsafe it doesn’t mean they all are.

6. Africa is the best place for safaris.

Nowhere else in the world does safaris like Africa. If you’re planning on visiting then this should be at the top of your bucket list.

There are many incredible experiences you can have involving animals in Africa. From gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda to seeing the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti or Masai Mara.

There are so many national parks where you can see elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, rhinos and have some really unique experiences too. This is definitely one of the best reasons to visit Africa.

Giraffe Manor is a popular place to stay in Kenya where a herd of giraffes roam the premises, often peeking their heads through the window as you’re having breakfast.

7. The people in Africa are really friendly.

One thing you’ll find with a lot of people you meet in Africa is that they are friendly, open and generous.

Make sure you put yourself out there and chat to the locals. I promise you won’t regret it.

8. Africa is full of adventure.

If you’re looking for an adventure then Africa is the perfect place for you.

Why not try bungee jumping from the highest bungee jump in the world (Bloukrans Bridge Bungy, South Africa) or take a hot air balloon ride over the ancient Valley of the Kings in Egypt?

Swimming with whale sharks. Trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro. White river rafting at the source of the River Nile.

Adventure awaits.

9. Explore some beautiful cities.

There are many wonderful cities to explore across Africa.

Luxor, Egypt is filled with fascinating ancient Egyptian history and is also the home of the tomb of Tutankhamun.

Cape Town, South Africa is brimming with exciting activities and is also wrapped up by the colossal Table Mountain. You can take a cable car to the summit for epic views of the city.

Marrakech, Morocco is a fantastic place to get lost in Moroccan culture.

Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia is Africa’s answer to Santorini. Explore it for yourself.

That concludes my list on why you should visit Africa. Of course, there are so many more reasons why you should visit Africa that I didn’t cover here but these are just a few that I hope will inspire you to visit the exciting and beautiful place that is Africa.

Happy Travels!
