Why Does Water Feel Colder Than Air?
One thing that you may (or may not) have noticed is that water feels colder than air, even when it’s the exact same temperature.
For example, 21ºC / 70ºF water will always feel colder than 21ºC / 70ºF air. But why is that?
If you go outside when it’s 21ºC / 70ºF then you’ll feel warm but if you jumped into a swimming pool of the same temperature, you’d feel kinda cold!
The reason for this is all about conductivity. Water is a better conductor than air so when you jump into the pool, the water takes more heat from your body compared with air.
As the water is taking more heat from you, you feel colder.
It’s important to consider this information when looking at the temperatures of the water in Bora Bora in the charts above.
If the water temperature says 28ºC / 82ºF then bear in mind that this will feel colder to you than if it was 28ºC / 82ºF outside.
And that’s it!
